The National Geographic Society Gala raises money for the National Geographic Fund for Exploration. The fund supports the extraordinary people conducting research, exploration, and conservations projects that address a new era of challenges and opportunities facing our planet. The 125th Anniversary Gala introduced the idea of the "Living Flag." A reinterpretation of the historic flag made up of three horizontal stripes: blue symbolizing the sky, brown representing land, and green reprsenting the sea. The event materials were created using iconic National Geographic photographs that helped bring the symbolism of these stripes to life.
